It is common for parents-especially mothers to choose to work from home so that they can raise their children themselves, avoiding the need for day-care. While this is a noble goal, it isn't always easy to manage both work and young children.
Some work at home jobs will in fact state from the outset that it is not possible to work and have children in the room. Generally these would include phone based jobs that involve you taking customer calls, for instance an at home call center job. The job requires peace and quiet to allow you to understand the customer when they speak, and for them to understand you.
Needing to work alone need not mean that you cannot do that type of job. A predictable routine for a young child can enable you to dedicate an hour or two a day before the child wakes in the morning, during naps, and once the child retires to bed for the night.
